Meet Rainbow, a handmade rocking horse created as a fourth birthday gift for my daughter and part of our family ever since.

The horse is crafted from laminated plywood, shaped and assembled by hand for strength and longevity. The saddle, bridle, and reins are made from leather offcuts, while the mane and tail are hand-dyed wool, generously gifted by a friend in Papa Westray—small details that give the piece its character and story.

Rainbow is hollow through the centre, leaving space for a hidden note or keepsake. When she was first made, my daughter tucked a secret message inside—an added touch of magic for years to come.
